Rahim Khan has called Amir and requested that he come home.  He wants to see Amir once more because he is old and dying.  He also wants Amir to go and rescue Hassan's son.  Rahim tells Amir that Hassan was not just his servant, but also his half brother.  Amir learns that this "orphan," Sohrab, is his nephew.  Rahim also wants Amir to return to Kabul to face his past and seek redemption.  Although Rahim was not completely aware of what happened to Amir and Hassan, he knows that whatever it was deeply affected Amir and the only way he can ever be free of the guilt that he lives with is to face that fear and to face his past.  By calling Amir back home Rahim gets to see Amir one more time, he sends him to rescue his nephew, and in doing so Amir can receive the redemption he so badly needs.
