Hassan will make a good friend because he is "fiercely loyal." He is born with a harelip, but is unconscious of it and remains happy, being known for his "easy smile." He is strong, athletic, and courageous. In addition, he is totally honest and incapable of deceit. To further the point that he will make a good friend, Hassan will not hold a grudge. Even when Amir has betrayed him twice by keeping silent about the rape and telling Baba that Hassan has stolen from them. Hassan simply apologizes as though he has committed the crime.
