I have to write a comparative essay on the two books - compare and contrast the two books. Posted by lolamolalola on Dec 28, 2008. |
The Kite Runner Group

“The Kite Runner” was about a father and a son and childhood friendships that stood the test of time. “A Thousand Splendid Suns” is about a mom and a daughter and childhood friendships that stood the test of time. Both books feature sinister villains, both feature a friend who makes an enormous sacrifice, both feature Afghanistan and the devastation caused by the Taliban. Both feature strange scenes, and both feature heart wrenching scenes. They are also by the same author. Another good choice might be Lisa See's “Snow Flower and the Secret Fan,” could be another good choice. It is a story of women's friendships in nineteenth century rural China. Lily, the narrator of the novel is in her eighties, looking back on her life. Lily's sister participated in a sworn sisterhood, where a group of young women formed a friendship that was to last until marriage, but Lily is paired with one girl, Snow Flower. Lily and Snow Flower have a love that is stronger than all of her other relationships and it causes them both more heartbreak. The novel is really the story of their friendship, its depths, its deceits, and its strengths. Posted by ladyvols1 on Dec 28, 2008. |

I just read The Blood of Flowers by Anita Amirrezvani. It is set in Iran and it focuses on women, but the cultures are similar and the two main characters have similiar "tragic flaws". Posted by charcunning on Jun 26, 2009. |
