King John | de Burgh (Hubert de Burgh)

John's aid and right-hand-man, he is chosen to carry out the king's order to murder Arthur. In III.iii, John slowly reveals to Hubert his malicious intentions. The king flatters Hubert, thanks him for his past services, and gradually takes him into his confidence. With implicit promises of great rewards, John tersely spells out what he wants: Arthur's death. Hubert vows that he shall have it.
