Kevin and Dana are unpacking boxes in their home in the middle of the day when she's first transported back in time. She's also gone for just a few seconds, so it's hard for Kevin to believe that she was gone long enough to have had such an experience. As a white man, Kevin has a hard time relating to what Dana tells him. He remarked that he thought it would be fun to live in the days of slavery. Kevin cannot even imagine what it would be like for a black person to live during slavery because he has no point of reference as a white man. Dana's story just seems too fantastic to be true, even though she returns with mud on her from the river.
