The word kindred is used as an adjective as well as a noun. It is derived from the root word kind, which means those of a kin or a race; sort or species of a particular variety.

As a noun, kindred means a relationship by blood. The word is also used to mean relationship by marriage by some people, but that is an inappropriate use of this word. The word is also used to refer to relatives, family or clan.

Is adjective the word kindred is used to mean like, similar or connected. It also means related by blood.
