Students Speak Out On Overall Experience
“I believe everyone at Kenyon has a ‘Kenyon moment’ that turns a switch and makes you truly appreciate Kenyon for all its good and bad aspects, because with everything considered, it is a one-of-a-kind and wonderful place. As a disoriented freshman, I got lost trying to find the observatory for a Physics lab at 10 o'clock at night during the first week of school. I was somewhere near the athletic facilities, and I asked a lacrosse player if he knew where the observatory was. He said ‘no, but I have a car—we can go look for it.’ So at 10 p.m., after sports practice, a complete stranger drove me around for a half-hour looking for the observatory. It was a completely unnecessary, yet benevolent gesture that I will always remember. It was one of my first impressions of Kenyon students, and one that they've certainly lived up to since.”
“Kenyon's a place where all the smart but quirky kids from high school came. We like to learn for learning's sake, but we also like to have fun. We play sports, we sing a cappella, we star-gaze, and we play ultimate Frisbee. There's definitely something to be said for 1,600 kids who want to spend four years in the middle of nowhere. We care about our education, but we really care about who we learn with. The people here are awesome, and if you take the time to get to know people, you'll always be presently surprised. Cliché? Maybe, but I think it's true.”
