How did Upton Sinclair's accomplishment affect his beliefs in socialism? Posted by valor442 on Mar 9, 2008. |
The Jungle Group

Following the publication of The Jungle many Americans, including president Teddy Roosevelt were outraged and disgusted by the the "industrial truth" of Sinclair's novel. His novel had a direct impact on society, resulting in the passage of the Food and Drug Act and the Meat Inspection Act passed in 1905-06. Sinclair would have viewed this as an accomplishment for the greater good of the society, hence reflective of socialistic idealogy. The idea that the needs of the many (the people within a society) should outweigh the needs of the few(industrial, or corporate America). Posted by dbello on Aug 4, 2008. |
