What conflicts does Brutus have in Act 1 and Act 2 of Julius Caesar?

    Cassius approaches Brutus in Act I to express concern over Brutus' lack of friendship. In response, Brutus tells Cassius that his behavior has nothing to do with his friend, but with an inner conflict.  This conflict is Brutus' feelings towards Caesar. Ultimately, Brutus will agree that Caesar is growing too powerful. But, this conflicts with his personal feelings because he loves Caesar, much like a father.

    In Act II, Portia pleads with Brutus to tell her what has brought him out of bed in the middle of the night and has caused him to act so coarse with her of late. Again, Brutus assures Portia this is not of her doing but the result of an inner conflict. He loves Caesar, but he has now agreed to join the conspiracy against Caesar due to Cassius' persuasion.
