Posted by mshurn on Saturday March 21, 2009 at 7:15 PMShortly before he is assassinated, Caesar listens as Metellus Cimber begs him to let Publius Cimber, his brother, come home after being banished. The conspirators then surround Caesar. As they get close to him, Brutus speaks in favor of Publius Cimber, as does Cassius. Caesar is not moved by their appeals and responds to them with arrogance. At that point, Casca is the first conspirator to stab Caesar, crying out, "Speak, hands, for me!" The others then join Casca in attacking. It appears that Brutus is the last to stab Caesar. As he dies, Caesar says his last words to the man whom he thought was his good friend: "Et tu, Brute? Then fall, Caesar!"
