    I think the pictures you are referring to are the ones found on Sue's dressing table by the school mistress when Sue did not come home the evening she went out with Jude.  One of the pictures was of Mr. Phillotson.  The other was of a yong man in an undergraduate cap and gown.  At first I thought it might be Jude, but her fellow students said that it was not Jude, the man Sue had been seen with that day.  I suspect that the man was the undergraduate Sue had had a passionate friendship with some time before.  It is telling that Sue does not have Jude's picture up in her room.  It gives rise to question the nature of her feelings for Jude.
