In "The Moon Lady" of "Joy luck club", ying-ying starts off with this paragraph and ends with "I did not lose myself all at once".

She  became lost both symbolically and  literally... She also says (even though her parents found her) that they never "Found the same girl". soo... how did the moon festival change her?? Why? Did it (Her transformation) have anything to do with her culture? and I dont get how she "Allowed herself to become lost symbolically"..

I know she changed the way she percieves herself, and the way her culture preceives her in society... but i am a bit confused.
