This journey includes many stops, each which allows Jane to understand herself and her desire better. She moves from Gateshead to Lowood, marking a movement from the passionate outbursts of a child to the rational response to criticism that comes from maturity. From Lowood to Thornfield, Jane is able to understand the depth of her love for Rochester as well as her need to be understood for who she is. She realizes that despite her love for Rochester, she needs to be accepted for who she is, and she cannot compromise herself. The movement from Thornfield to Moorhouse allows Jane to finally experience the balance between what her heart is telling her and what her head is telling her. Only after achieving this balance can she complete her journey, traveling back to Thornfield and being with Rochester.
