“Oh, no,” I said when I heard the news. “More terrorism.”

Along with the rest of the country, I was appalled when Islamic fanatics blew up our embassies in Africa. But I was equally appalled when we bombed their bases. I see little to choose between these two acts of bloodshed.

Terrorism has been with us since the first caveman crushed his neighbor with his club. By definition, it is to “coerce by threat or force.” It is the growling dog, the charging rhino; it is the law of the jungle.
