Although best known for his short stories—especially the quintessential tale “Bontsha the Silent”—Isaac Peretz was a noted playwright, poet, essayist, and ideologue in two languages. He wrote prolifically in Hebrew and Yiddish, and only the novel form escaped his sustained attack.
