Iraq (2004) | The United States Should Permit Iraqis to Elect an Islamic Regime

There is nothing more stirringly symbolic of a new political era than the statue of a conquered leader toppling from its pedestal. Even those of us who oppose the [2003] war in Iraq couldn’t help but rejoice with the Iraqi men who looped wire and rope around Saddam Hussein’s statue in Baghdad.

As one friend said, freeing the Iraqis from Hussein’s tyranny is the silver lining in this mushroom cloud.

Now, we just have to help the folks form a democratic government and, presto change-o, our work is done.
