Would the interlopers have been friends if they didn't die?

    That is the big question at the end of the short story. One we are left wondering what the outcome will be. After years as enemies and a confrontation where they wanted to kill each other - when they found themselves in a life and death situation they resolved their differences and for all intents and purposes forged the beginning of a friendship.

    Whether the truce would have lasted is debatable. I personally think that both are so stubborn in what they think is right that if they were in fact rescued they would go back to hating each other. But the same argument could hold true for their remaining friends, they could be so stubborn that they would not care what others said and continue to allow their friendship to grow.
