Homer illustrates the extent to which Achilleus is ravages by his own anger and need for revenge. In becoming vengeful, he goes against the Heroic Code and angers the gods.

Priam is able to make Achilleus remember what is important-his love for his father, Patroklos, his life, and future. Able to regain his perspective, he acquires his humane qualities of empathy, pity, and love to replace revenge.

The overall impact is that the distinction between enemy and ally, and right and wrong no longer exist.
