He makes the most of his life now, would rather fight and die an early death, than retreat to live longer. Achilles does recognize the contradictions of the heroic warrior, but still believes in the warrior's way of life.His desire to triumph is different than that of Sarpedon's heroic nature. Sarpedon wants to bring the glory and honor of his name to Lydians, yet would find more happiness if there was peace. Achilles is the ultimate hero because he is fighting for the present, not to have his glory live on after he has died.
