This question should be on the discussion board. I wish I had an answer for your question. If we knew the reason why, maybe we could prevent it from ever happening again. The only thing I can say is that some people choose to do evil things. According to most experts, pedophilia is a strong compulsion, so strong that there is no rehabilitation from it. Some look at the perpetrator as a victim as well, noting that many child molesters were themselves molested. I don't want to give you my personal thoughts on the matter because they would be deemed too harsh for this forum. Should Maya Angelou's book be talked about in school? Absolutely it should be read and discussed. Angelou is a role model for survivors of child sexual abuse. She has held her head high and proclaimed to the world that she is somebody.
