The House of the Seven Gables was built over an "uneasy grave", this shall be the doom that lies over the existence of all who live there. The house symbolizes decay, it's inhabitants, the Pynchon's symbolize human decay. I would like to know what others think about "the chimeny".....what does it represent to you????? In reply to #1: I feel the "huge, clustered chimney" represents a part of the house that has endured for centuries and gradually accumulated with literal and figurative soot. It represents the gradual decline in the grandeur of the house and the Pyncheons. Posted by ab15 on Aug 27, 2009. |
