Look back to find her specific age. She might be 14 or 16. Then, look to see why she lives with her Aunt and Uncle? Why does she want to go back to Puerto Rico?
Similarly, you need to look at how she behaves. She is not allowed to go out. She hangs out of the doorways. She wears make up. She always wants attention from boys. Finally, her aunt and uncle are thinking of sending her back south.
Next, look at her experience. In "Geraldo, No Name," she really experiences maturity beyond comparison. That one vignette presents something that no young woman would ever want to experience: witnessing the untreated death of a stranger. Look at the incomplete sentences, rhetorical questions and repetition to really see her plight.
