Hopscotch | Characters

The various characters that appear in Hopscotch are presented from Oliveira's perspective. Three episodes in particular underscore Oliveira's alienation from his friends and his anguished quest for communion. The first of these takes place at an informal get-together of the Serpent Club. As the other members enthusiastically involve themselves in a variety of philosophical inquiries while listening to jazz, Oliveira, somewhat aloof, notices that La Maga's baby is no longer breathing.
