Can you help me with information to write an introduction for a code of conduct manual for the hospitality industry that should include these two sections:
- Information about the history of etiquette, courtesy, and manners
- A brief summary of your philosophy of hospitality, which should include proper etiquette and manners, as well as your reasoning behind the need for a code of conduct to be a standard for your employees

Contemporary manners, which connect "correct behavior with decency" (Henry Hitchins, The Independent), often derive from the French royal courts of the 1500s. Manners were often the separating marker between the upper, civilized, classes and the lower, uncouth, classes. This is the reason "manners" gained a bad reputation in some Western countries after World War II. Much in American manners derives from Emily Post, born in 1872.
