You need to move a 25-pound box onto a platform that is 3 feet off the ground. What kind of ramp would you use and why?

To move a 25 pound box 3 feet off the ground you would use a inclined plane with a gentle rise. "An inclined plane is a simple machine with no moving parts, also called a ramp, decreases the amount of force needed to lift a load or weight by increasing the distance the load travels." For example, an inclined plane that covers twice the distance of the vertical side will need half the amount of effort to lift a weight than if the weight was lifted straight up. The amount of work remains the same."  In other words using the incline means less effort than lifting the box from the floor.  Using the incline increases your mechanical advantage.  MA = length divide by height, and by changing the angle of the ramp one can usefully vary the force necessary to raise or lower a load.
