Any number z can be written as x^y if x can z have the same sign. Given x and z, to determine y, take the logarithm of z and x^y to any base, y = log z/log x.

Here, the numbers given allow the exponent to determined without using logarithms.

It is known that 81 = 9*9 = 9^2

The number 81 can be written as 9^2

100000 = 10*10*10*10*10 = 10^5

**The number 81 = 9^2 and 100000 = 10^5.**

**81=9*9=9^2**

**100000=10*10*10*10*10=10^5**
