Pahk Induck was a feminist and educator in Korea during the time when this was not allowed for women.  She was a well rounded and well educated woman. She participated in the March First protest in 1919.  She was accused of teaching her students to stand up for their rights and eventually was put into prison for instigating rebellion within her sphere of influence.   Yu Gwan Sun became one of the heroines of the movement and she had been taught by Pahk.

Induck left Korea to attend Wesleyan University in 1926.  She graduated in 1928 and got her post graduate degree from Columbia in 1931. While she attended Columbia Induck became active in the Student Volunteer Movement and lectured in 32 different countries. Pahk Induk was born in Jinnampo Pyungannam-do, 1896. Her father died when she was very young and she was raised by her mother in the home of her grandparents.

Her mother was determined that Pahk would be educated so she dressed her daughter as a little boy so that she could attend a school forbidden to the girls in the village.  When she was nine years old, another school opened which allowed girls and Phak went to that school. She was married to Kim UnHo. It was not what Pahk really wanted to do but she married this rich millionaire to assure the care for her mother. She thought if she married millionaire, she can continue her social activities and support her old mother better. She got married to Kim Yu Ho in Jun. 1920.  The irony of this situation was that after she married him he lost everything and was poor during their whole marriage.

In July of 1926 Induk had had enough and left her home to attend college in America.  This was controversial at the time because she not only left her husband; she also left her two children. Later, Pahk Induk divorced her husband and she gave him money to let her out of the marriage.  “She was the first woman in the history of Korea who divorced her husband giving consolation money. “
