The best way to argue this would be to say that the US was acting out of a double standard when it got so angry about the presence of Russian missiles in Cuba.

The US got upset about the missiles in Cuba because the USSR was now, for the first time, able to hit the continental US with nuclear missiles.  But the US had had the ability to hit the Soviet Union with such missiles for a long time.  If it was okay for the US to have missiles in Europe and Turkey that could hit the USSR, why was it okay for it to get so mad when the USSR put missiles in a place that could hit the US?

Using this line of reasoning, you could argue that the US overreacted to the presence of the missiles and, thereby, caused the crisis.
