Why do some sensory adapters develop slowly and others develop rapidly?

The presence of hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) receptor and its interaction with nerve growth factor (NGF) regulates nerve development. Thus any lessening to or excess in these factors will affect sensory adaptor development as sensory nerves are affected.
