Why do i need to know position function ?

The movement of any object may be described when we know the position that the object occupies at any given time.
Usually, the position of an object varies in time, therefore the position function is written as x(t).
There are many functions that can be used to describe the way of changing of position of the object with time.
For instance, if the position of the object changes linearly with time, the position function is given by the expression: x(t) = x0 + v*t.
Also, if the position of the object changes quadratically with time, the position function is given by the expression: x(t) = x0 + v0*t + a*t^2/2.
