Why did Hawthorne choose the specific names of each of the four main characters?

Well I think that all of the characters names are representative of their actual character. Think of the minister Arthur Dimmesdale. THe word dims is the one that sticks out from his name, and just as a light dims, so does Aurthur. The pain of keeping secret of his affair with Hester makes him falter. Most of the names in this novel continue this way. Think about a Pearl and what that symbolizes, and then think about the character.
