Why did Hallie (Helimeda) go to Nicaraqua?

While living in Arizona, Hallie started to take in refugees from South America, and became concerned over the political conflicts going on.
She decides to go to Nicaragua to help with the reconstruction of agriculture. She feels she must help, and the political conflicts are not going to get in her way.
