For whom did Michelangelo write poetry?
1 Answer | Add Yours
Michelangelo met the poet Vittoria Colonna in 1538. The relationship that developed between the two was one of deep platonic love. They had an intense admiration for each other and each other’s works. It is this relation that Michelangelo had with Vittoria Colonna that brought a talent for writing poetry which was within him. He was able to write some very fine pieces of poetry dedicated to Vittoria. Between the years 1538 and 1547 he wrote several poems which included poems like the Celestial Love, Dante, The Doom of Beauty, Joy May Kill and To Vittoria Colonna among many others.
