In Flowers for Algernon, Miss Kinnian is Charlie's teacher at the school that he attends. She is also the person who recommended Charlie for the experimental surgery that will hopefully make his intelligence grow. She knows that Charlie is very motivated and this is why she thinks the surgery may be successful. She is a part of the team that is observing Charlie but she is not one of the scientists. At one point in the story when Charlie has become very intelligent there is somewhat of a "love" connection between Charlie and Miss Kinnian.
Miss Kinnian is driven by emotion and has Charlie's best interests at heart. She cares about him deeply. She treats Charlie with a great deal of respect and understanding. As his intelligence continues to grow, Charlie has to deal with many issues and she is always there for him.
