The first boats were thought to be dugouts or skin boats, which predated any written history. It was somewhere during the Stone-age period, around 40,000 years ago, in the Spanish Guadalquiver River.  Of course, a topic such as this which dates back so many years is bound to generate some disagreement.

The first skin-type boats were used in the lower Euphrates River around 1000 BC or so, and Egypt had some plank boats around 2700BC.

Boats have been around since ancient times. One of first mentions of boats can be traced back to Noah and the Ark. However, the first boat was probably the dugout boat. Historians are unable to pinpoint when or where the very first water vessel was set afloat, and even speculate that it might have been purely an accident the first time. But, however it happened, the addition of the boat changed the face of transportation. Boats allowed man to, for the first time ever, cross bodies of water without getting wet. Archaeologists believe that the very first step toward boat making began in either Mesopotamia or Asia, sometime around 4000-3500 BC. However, the Egyptians are credited with the first wide-spread use of boats for river travel.Over time, the simple boat evolved to include a large square of cloth mounted on a central pole. This cloth, called a sail, would turn the boat into a sail-propelled ship, allowing men to travel both over rivers and the sea.

Boats are made from wood planks, basically used for traveling by sea. There are various uses of boats like fishing, cruising etc.
Boats are generally used since ancient times. Used and said to be made in 3000 BC by Egyptians and Mesopotamians. At that time ancient Egyptians used boats, that took the advantage of predictable wind blowing from north to south on the Nile river. In the same way Ores used to row there way back from south to north on the Nile river.
There were several usage for boats at that time;
  • Used to travel on water
  • Used to trade
  • Used for fishing
  • Used to transport cargo
  • Used in saving people who drown at sea

DUGOUTS are the boats mostly used in ancient times as a transport. We came to know this because this is the type of boat that archaeologists found. Boats are being used this prehistoric times. These played an important role in commerce in Indus Valley Civilization and Mesopotamia.

dugouts were the first boats, they were usually made of dug out tree trunks. As for who were the first to make them, it is hard to say as it was probably made during prehistoric times.

Boats was already being constructed since the ancient pasts. In the early times, they were used as short-term transportation from a nearby location to another. The early settlement of Australians dated way 4000 years ago testifies to the existence of boats as a mean of transportation, which around that time, were made of logs. The oldest one that was found and used were called dugouts, somewhere around 7000 B.C.

Boats around that time were very useful for merchants and adventurers. They can be used to transport goods to another country, used to explore new territories and occupy new lands, thus America was formed due to Christopher Columbus sailing the sea to find that glorious land.
