The Industrial Revolution began in Britain in the early years of the 18th century. Society was changed dramatically. It went from a work force of mainly artisans to a workforce of factory workers. A few major changes that occurred during this period were: advances in agricultural production, changes and the mechanization of the textile industry, the development of canals in Britain, the development and construction of canals in Britain, the development of roads and railways, the construction of steam ships, and changes in the manufacturing of iron and steel products.
Arguably, the most important changes during this period were witnessed in the increased production of food stuffs and agricultural products. Better techniques of planting and harvesting were employed to feed the masses.
If Newcomen's steam engine in 1705 marks the beginning of the industrial revolution then the invention of the differential calculus by Newton in books published from 1687 to 1726 must be the most important invention of the Industrial Revolution.
