It really depends on what you are looking for. I enjoy both versions but for different reasons. Zefferelli's version is more accuarate and is almost done line-for-line. Luhrmann's version modernizes the play as a whole with the exception of the language. Both are accurate, and I think younger audiences tend to lean towards Luhrmann's, whereas older audiences tend to lean towards Zefferelli's. I show clips of Zefferelli's version in my class and we watch the entire Luhrmann rendition, mainly becuase I have HS freshman and they tend to connect and relate better to the 1996 version.
