When was "The Watsons Go to Birmingham--1963" published?
1 Answer | Add Yours
The author of this book, Christopher Paul Curtis, won the Hopwood Prize at the University of Michigan for a rough draft of The Watsons Go to Birmingham. His family encouraged him to do more with his writing, so he decided to complete the novel--writing it out by hand and having his son type it--and work to get it published. Delacorte Books for Young Readers did indeed publish it in September 1995. In 1996, the book was given a Newbery Honor, and Curtis received an Author Honor award from the Coretta Scott King Book Awards.
