To remember the conversion table you must know base unit.For example base unit for length is meter and base unit for mass is gram.Write base unit in centre left to it will bigger unit and right  smaller unit.From centre when move left divide by 10 at every step while moving right multiply by 10.

Kg.                    Hg.           Dag.    g   Dg.     Cg.        Mg

1/(10x10x10)  1/(10x10)    1/10    1  1x10  1x10x10    1x10x10x10

Km.                    Hm.         Dam.   m   Dm.     Cm.        Mm

1/(10x10x10)  1/(10x10)    1/10    1  1x10  1x10x10    1x10x10x10

We know

volume= length x breadth x height

          =m x m x  m

          =m^3

Thus base unit of volume is m^3 .
