Planting trees or other kinds of plants actually involves a lot of physical activity. They might arrange a field trip to plant trees, or even go so far as to establish a little plot for a school garden. The children would be moving constantly, digging, planting seeds, pulling weeds, and so on. They would be active and helping the planet at the same time. Other more fixed and constant types of activities might just be given a little Earth Day spin. Arrange games of freeze tag where the only way to unfreeze is if you can name an endangered animal (the animals will presumably be provided by the teachers beforehand), or set aside at least one day a week for a hike somewhere, to get the children excited about and more respectful toward the world around them. Even something as simple as going over the school collecting trash and recyclables would be a way to get the children involved with helping the planet, keeping their surroundings clean, and exercising (walking).
