Miss Edmunds actually encouraged Jess's creativity rather than condemning it. When she finds out that her students have artistic abilities, she tries to find ways to develop those abilities rather than labeling them "daydreamers" or "doodlers." As it turns out, Leslie (Jess's best friend) is an excellent writer, as both her parents are writers, whereas Jess is an artist because he is simply talented. While Jess's art is not always encouraged at home, Miss Edmunds represents the kind-hearted supporter in her role as teacher.
