One thing that you will have to realize is that things that are surprising to us may not surprise you.  More likely, things that would surprise you about this information will not surprise us.  Therefore, it is important that you look at the links yourself to see what is surprising.

The first link makes three main points.  First, it says that the government had used all of its usual policies and they didn’t work.  Therefore it had to resort to quantitative easing.  Second, it says that the Federal Reserve is able to, in essence, simply make money out of thin air.  Third, it says that people do not really know if this policy will actually work.  The second link makes similar points.  It also tells us that even the leaders of the Federal Reserve are not completely united on the idea of quantitative easing.

Given that these are the main points of the links that you have provided, which points are surprising to you?  You should explain why one or more of these points is surprising.  Say what you thought was the case and how the truth is different.  In that way, you can give a good answer to this question.
