The refrigerator made life much easier for anyone who is in charge of feeding themselves or their family.  Being able to have various kinds of food right there in your kitchen all the time (not having to go to the store so often) is so convenient.

One thing that I think refrigerators helped to cause is the death of small neighborhood grocery stores.  Now, you can drive somewhat far once in a while, buy a lot of stuff, and put it in your fridge.  Before, you needed to shop way more often and so having a store very close to your home was much more important.

The electric refrigerator replaced the 'icebox' as the way to keep food fresher longer. Although the icebox served a purpose, its efficiency was based upon how fast the ice brick set above the box melted. Too often it was too fast as well as adding a mess to the kitchen. The refrigerator increased the efficiency of the icebox while ending the problem of melting ice in the kitchen. It also allowed people to buy and store fresh food products in a safer enviornment. As a result people were able to consume better foods for example fresh produce, eggs, and meats. The invention of the refrigerator raised the quality of life for many people in the new urban cities that were emerging at the beginning of the 20th century, simply because it offered people the opportunity to eat better foods. In addition, due to the refrigerator's importance in modern daily life it has undergone several stages of improvements. Throughout the 20th century manufactures replaced the chemical Freon with ingredients that are more enviornmently safe, thus better for us.
