The value of x and b has to be determined for which (x + 4bi)(9 - 2i) = 14

(x + 4bi)(9 - 2i) = 14

=> 9x + 36bi - 2xi + 8b = 14

=> 9x + 8b = 14 and 36b - 2x = 0

36b - 2x = 0

=> x = 18b

substituting in 9x + 8b = 14

=> 9*(18b) + 8b = 14

=> b = 14/170 = 14/170

x = 252/170

The required value of x = 252/170 and b = 14/17
