Numbers are used to measure, count, label things, for codes and serial numbers used in ordering. Even ancient people left tally marks on artifacts indicating that someone was counting, whether it be days, keeping records of something, etc. There is even evidence that ancient Bablyonians and Egyptians used the number zero in early accounting. Numbers can be used to calculate what speed your car is travelling. They are used in pricing items for sale in stores. We use them to represent channels on the television or radio, the temperature we are cooking food and for recognizing a person's credit card. Numbers are a way to quantify something you are observing--for instance, it is five miles to the store, the insect is 2 cm long. There are infinte ways numbers are used in daily life.
