Charles Morris says that there are 3 types of word meaning (sense).

Referential meaning deals with how we understand symbols as they relate to a meaning. For example, the Red Cross of America is a universal symbol for health, compassion, help, and first aid.

The pragmatic meaning is the most common one during communication. It includes:

  • word association
  • expressiveness
  • intended meaning
  • imperative meaning

Your third one is the intralingual meaning, which is how different signs connect. This includes:

  • linguistic
  • morphological
  • graphemic
  • pholological
  • discourse
  • textual
