In Act II, Scene IV of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Mercutio teases Romeo because he believes that the reason Romeo slipped away after the Capulet's party was to be with Rosaline.  Mercutio is very quick-witted, so he engages Romeo in an impressive wordplay based on Romeo's having sneaked away from his friends.  Although Romeo does engage in this battle of wits, there does come a point when Mercutio becomes more serious.

In line 82 of Scene IV, Mercutio questions Romeo; he asks Romeo if Romeo agrees that it is better to have fun than being depressed and heartbroken all of the time.  Fortunately for Romeo (Benvolio believes he'll get mad), Nurse and her servant, Peter, come along before Mercutio can be serious for very long.
