what is the thesis and essay outline about the author believing in the american dream

In the novel Of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck illustrates the American Dream ideal of owning a piece of land and being the master of your own destiny with the help of friends which in essence is the thesis. If this idea is the thesis of an essay, the outline would have to include how he shows this ideal. In the novel, George and Lennie's striving to achieve their dream of owning their own piece of land can be one of the paragraphs which illustrate the American Dream. Included in this idea would be the work they have tried to do to imagine their place and what they have tried to achieve it. Since the dream also includes bettering yourself and your place in life, the two men want to be better than the wanderers who go from place to place looking for work. The landowner has the advantage of class over those who own nothing which is why George and Lennie don't want to stay wanderers; they want to be part of that better class. The third idea for Steinbeck believing that there is an American Dream is the friendship between the two men as each could not reach for the dream without the other. Each relieves the loneliness of life for the other and belonging is a big part of the American Dream. With these ideas, I believe you can create an essay which further develops your question.
