With his creative genius, let us not forget that Steve Jobs saved Apple from financial ruin.

I feel that the compelling contribution to society of Steve Jobs was bringing to the computer market products with innovative design.

There is nothing in the world that works like a Macintosh computer.  Try as they have, nobody in the PC world has come close to emulating the user friendliness of the "Mac".  Each and every product from Apple has represented a leap forward in design and functionality.  Each product (from computers to iPods and iPads) is invariably (and unsuccessfully) emulated by Apples worldwide competitors.  Even the packages in which Apple products are shipped are innovative, attractive and extremely clever.

Paying attention to design is, in my opinion, the single most important contribution by Steve Jobs.

As an unrelated and amusing aside, I read this week the following:

"Ten years ago we had Steve Jobs, Bob Hope and Johnny Cash.  Today we have no jobs, we have no hope and we have no cash."

One of Jobs greatest accomplishment was to combine things in ascetically pleasing ways. For instance, the iphone is a: phone, mini-computer, camera, video recorder, and organizer. And if we include apps, then it is so much more - a translator, dictionary, cook book, game console, etc. It also looks great. To do this required incredible creativity. He was a genius. He will be missed.

Part of Steve Jobs' considerable legacy is the profound impact he has made in education. Twenty years ago, who among us could have imagined the technology that plays such an important role in today's classrooms, innovations that have truly revolutionized the ways we can instruct students and connect them, as well as ourselves, to a world of resources unavailable to all previous generations. We take them for granted now, but not so long ago, technology in the classroom was a 16-millimeter projector and a film-strip machine.

To think that the APPLE 2C I used in 1990 was a clunker by today's standards and that I now hold a more powerful computer in the palm of my hand when I use my iphone absolutely astounds me.  Jobs is responsible for the kind of innovation that is truly changing the way we communicate every day -- amazing.

He took a company that was staring irrelevancy and bankruptcy in the face and turned it into one of the most profitable companies in the country.  He made apple and iPhone a household word, but also part of the cultural vocabulary itself.  The iPad and iPhone for years have had other companies imitating Apple products rather than being revolutionary themselves.  Ask this of a friend of mine, and he'll say Jobs' greatest accomplishment was turning his initial investment of $1500 into the $150,000 it is worth today.

I think the Steve Jobs legacy will be the innovation he inspired. He ran his business in a new and different way than others had done before him. He took Apple to new and exciting places. I'm sure that company would be very different without his influence. He also helped to create many products which are now a large part of our world. The ipad and the iphone revolutionized their respective markets. Now, even the e-readers are working to become more tablet like to compete with the ipad. He will be missed and his innovative ideas he left behind will last a long time.

Steve Jobs is certainly an incredibly influential figure, and I am sure his passing will be mourned by many. I think for me, one of his biggest achievements is the way in which he managed to create a brand that was considerably "cooler" than any of the alternatives. In spite of apple's excellent user friendly appliances, he managed to imbue his devices with a sense of coolness that meant customers overlooked the much cheaper alternatives and shelled out for the image that they were buying into.

One of Jobs' greatest accomplishments was showing Americans that Americans can still accomplish significant, world-transforming achievements. He helped revolutionize the way we live today and helped usher in one of the great transformations in communication technology.  The age of the computer, in which Jobs was a true pioneer, will probably somedya seem as great a period in human history as the age of the printing press. Job was one of those business leaders whose achievements have affected the lives of just about everyone on the planet. In that sense he resembles such earlier figures as Thomas Edison or Henry Ford. RIP, Steve Jobs.

I've never owned an Apple product, but I admire his motivational spirit and his individualism -- he never gave up on a good idea. Now, to be fair, he never gave up on some bad ideas either, but that's par for the course when you're a true innovator. Jobs had specific, quantifiable ideas about personal computing and he didn't sell them or wait for someone else to do it for him, he went out and made them happen; a legitimate Prime Mover in every sense of the phrase.

For me, Steve Jobs changed the face of music and communication. The iPod revolutionized music and its accessibility. He changed the way we use telephones: not just in talking but with the iPhone, in using computers in telephones, wherever you go. Then the iPad was "born." Steve Jobs was a man of amazing vision: he was brilliant. Things that would have seemed typical fare in sci-fi TV or movies only ten years ago have become things we almost take for granted now. I don't know that anyone will ever be able to measure how much he changed the world. He will be missed. Prayers for his family!

Jobs will be remembered for thinking outside the box. If you take a look at how Apple led the way in terms of combining the entertainment, computing, and education fields, you realize that someone had to be responsible for it. Jobs, whether himself or his employees, chose to think outside the box enough to take industries that normally did not cross and found a variety of ways to make them work together.

I was sad to hear that Steve Jobs died. I am writing this on an iPad. For me, Jobs's legacy was reinventing the phone and personal computing. I will never look at a cell phone the same way, since I got my iPhone a few years ago. The iPad similarly has made life easier and more interesting. Both increase my productivity and entertain me.
