The current war the reader sees in the novel seems to be one started based on the fact that in a society where everyone feels the need to be on edge (i.e. - fast cars, suicides) a constant war in inevitable. The actual "start" of the war is never mentioned although the fact that once the current war is over another will be started is alluded to several times. Some people (much smarter than I) think that Bardbury wrapping up with an explosion at the end as a result of said war is a cop out.
